Overview

In 2004, the Virginia Department of Education was awarded a state improvement grant addressing literacy improvements for all students, but especially students with disabilities at the middle and high school levels. One of the project activities is to support the planning and implementation of the Strategic Instruction Model™ (SIM) and Content Literacy Continuum™ (CLC) in four schools in the state. These schools serve as demonstration sites for three years (2004-05 through 2006-07).

Beginning in 2007, the five-year, $5.9 million Adolescent Literacy Partnerships: Meeting the Needs of All Students project, funded by the Virginia Department of Education, will expand on work undertaken during the three-year State Improvement Grant. The continued goal of the work is to improve literacy outcomes for adolescents with disabilities through use of the Center for Research on Learning’s Strategic Instruction Model™ and Content Literacy Continuum™.CRL

Since 1978, the Center for Research on Learning at the University of Kansas has developed ways to help students, especially adolescents who struggle in school, to become good learners.
